Words From Our FLY Founder
When I began my journey in technology in 1998 as a self taught developer, there was limited resources or role models for little girls like me; yet, through my curiosity and determination, I was able to teach myself 6 programming languages in just 1 1/2 years.
I had no idea what I wanted to do with my new technical skills, nor the career possibilities and opportunities that it would provide me; but more importantly, I had no idea about the obstacles that awaited women like me upon entering the technology industry.
Nearly, 20 years later... after serving as a mentor and reflecting on my own journey, as well as the barriers that I had to overcome as a woman, successfully navigating my way through from education to employment and through to entrepreneurship; I decided in November 2015 that I would use my technical skills to build a product to help other women & girls navigate their journey as well; and FlyTechnista was born.
My hopes for creating FlyTechnista is to unite, advance, and retain women in tech; to provide economic opportunities for all women; to help close the gender-access gap / gender-pay gap; and to create a more diverse and inclusive technology industry.
I ask that you please join us, in empowering women & girls to become innovators, creators, and leaders in technology.
